Niue is extremely safe for humans - no poisonous animals, spiders or insects live on Niue. So feel free to come and explore our beautiful wilderness.
Exploring the tropical rainforest
Almost a quarter of Niue is virgin rainforest, full of native birds and plant life.
Misa Kulatea, pictured top right, spent many of his childhood years living in the deep rainforest where you see him now. A devout conservationist, he offers harbour to many sick birds and bats & gently nourishes them back to health. Steeped in old knowledge, he now he guides visitors through the forest he adores & loves to share it.
Misa’s Nature Tours are highly rated and a high point of any visit to Niue. He’s even guided visiting Heads of State! For more information or bookings, contact the Niue Tourism Office in Alofi.
Reef Walks
Niue is ringed with a raised reef that at low tide can be safely explored; the clean waters, lack of industry and small human population ensure the coastline is exactly as nature created it, and it’s a fascinating trip.
Of course this can be done easily on your own by wandering down any sea track in every village, but if unsure of the tides or the landscape, or you would like explanations of the life you’ll discover, a guide is essential.
Herman Tagaloailuga has been guiding people for years, in between growing anthiriums, and is a font of knowledge you’ll be glad to have along. For more information or bookings, contact the Niue Tourism Office in Alofi.
We do not want you to get stranded or hurt, so if you intend to explore the reef on your own, you'd be wise to check or purchase the tide charts from the Niue Tourism Office in Alofi before you go. |
