Niue

Upon arriving in Niue we were encouraged to go on the Commodores Orientation bus tour where we could be shown the island, what walks to go on and some of the more special places of interest to visit - I wasn't sure of what to expect but Commodore Keith exceeded our expectations. What the Commodore doesn't know about the geology of the island, the different walks and sea tracks probably isn't worth knowing. The 3 hour tour actually turned into 4 hours as we were having such a great time, we all stopped for lunch. If it hadn't been for Keith's tour, we wouldn't have found half of the wonderful walks that we found and some of the views were breath taking. The Commodore does take you on some of the walks so a good pair of shoes is a must. He was considerate of our health along the way and didn't make you feel obliged to do go on the walk if you were not fit enough. The stories he tells are both interesting and funny and the time just flies by. He doesn't go around to every walk in the hours that we were touring - but he will point them out on the map as to where they are, how long they will take, the degree of difficulty and even provides advice right down to the type of footwear you should wear - truly amazing! His tours definitely give you some background to Niue and the special spots to visit. He is just a lovely man - it's worth going - if only to make a new friend. We had a ball! Thanks Commodore!
